Hard Water Smelly Water Contaminants

Common water problems in Fort Dodge

Contaminant problems

Some of the most dangerous water contaminants have no taste, smell or appearance. Contaminants can enter your water via private wells, miles of underground utility pipes or even the local municipal water source.

Common contaminants include:

  • Arsenic
  • Turbidity
  • Lead
  • Nitrates
  • Radon

Hard water problems

Hard water results from high levels of calcium and magnesium in water. Hard water minerals stick to everything water touches, and do more than leave an unsightly residue - they can actually harm your home and cost you money.

Common hard water problems include:

  • Stains and buildup on sinks, shower heads, and dishes
  • Dry skin and hair
  • Costly long-term damage to water appliances

Smelly water problems

Before your water enters your home, it can pick up smelly contaminants - from the soil around private wells, miles of underground utility pipes or even the local municipal water source itself. You may not be able to see these contaminants, but as soon as you turn on the tap or lift a glass to your face, something is obviously not right.

Common water odor problems include:

  • A "rotten-egg" odor due to hydrogen sulfide in the soil near your well
  • A musty, woody smell due to organic contaminants like algae or total dissolved solids (TDS)
  • A "bleachy" smell due to chlorine added in by municipalities
  • A soapy or chemical smell due to contaminated private wells

My husband and I wanted to make sure our water softener was working properly, we had reset it ourselves following all the steps in the manuel instructions that came with the softener, but we still wanted to make sure someone competent (or so we thought!) would come and confirm that it was working correctly. So we called them and we were told that the service would cost $42 and that we would get a free bag of salt also. The person that came didn't seem to know what he was doing, he said he had never seen that type of softener before, he had my husband "help" him, then told my husband to "just do the steps again" then supposedly tested the water and said it was soft. Also, we never got our "free bag of salt". Anyway, the salt level in the softener hasn't moved since this guy came over and messed with the softener (it's been over 2 months), we are not convinced at all, and we are now getting charged late fees for not paying the bill. The bill will not be paid because A the service was not provided and B it was incomplete. I will call corporate on this if I have to. We're going to have someone from Blue Ribbon Pelham come and check our softener. HORRIBLE service. Update: same here, we were contacted by the new management/owners and they seem really great and understanding, they told us to not worry about the bill we hadn't paid, so no balance is due, and even apologized for the horrible experience with the previous owner (even though they have absolutely nothing to do with that dude). We're using Blue Ribbon right now, after the terrible experience with the previous owner, but if we ever need to change again I will definitely give them a shot. I really hope the business works for the new owners. Thanks a lot for making things right!

Absolutely a horrible experience and customer service, wouldn’t recommend to anybody in the area. Save your time and money and buy your own. My gf called and wanted to discontinue service and he told her as rude as possible to disconnect it and set it to the side for them to come get because he was upset we were no longer needing their service. One, how does he expect her to know how to work that and do that herself? Two, never once came and checked or serviced the water softener besides the day we moved in 2 plus years ago (which the guy said would be done regularly) The guy over the phone was nothing but rude and And basically called her a liar when I called back myself trying to figure this out. Save yourself the time and energy dealing with this company. WHAT A JOKE! UPDATE: New owner reached out on his own to apologize and let us know the old owner had been let go, approached the situation extremely professional and seemed to really be sincere with his apology. With that being said, it seems as if they are heading in the right direction to build back what they lost due to the old owner. HUGE difference when talking to him compared to the last guy in charge.
